Tanjung Puting National Park has several ecosystem types which consists of lowland tropical rain forest, dry land forests, freshwater swamp forests, mangrove forests, coastal forests, and secondary forests.

This region is dominated by lowland forest plants such as jelutung (Dyera costulata), ramin (Gonystylus bancanus), meranti (Shorea sp.), Keruing (Dipterocarpus sp.), And rattan.

Endemic and rare species that are protected in the forest Tanjung Puting National Park, among others orangutan (Pongo Satyrus), proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus), red langurs (Presbytis rubicunda rubida), bear (Helarctos malayanus euryspilus), deer (Tragulus klossi javanicus), clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa), and cats (Prionailurus borneoensis bengalensis).

Tanjung Puting National Park is the first location in Indonesia as an orangutan rehabilitation center. There are three locations for the rehabilitation of orangutans in Tanjung Harapan, Pondok Tanggui, and Camp Leakey.


Borneo Orangutan has dark reddish fur and a tail. In line with the growth of age, adult males develop cheek pads to form. The older, bigger cheek pads so impressed spooky face.

Tanjung Puting National Park by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve in 1977 and is the Sister Park with Malaysia.

Some locations / attractions to be visited:


Cape of Good Hope. It is the first station in the rehabilitation of orangutans. This location is in the secondary forest and swamp forest that comes with guest house, trail and road information center.
Tanggui cottage. Orangutans are still observed in private and avoid contact with humans.
Camp Leakey. Founded in 1971, located in the primary forest and is home to some of the half-wild orangutans to the wild and from the newborn to the age of three years (the old king).
Natai galangal. Proboscis research stations and other wildlife observation through the river.
Reed River and Lake Birds. Bird watching, especially migratory birds.

Achievement way location: Jakarta-Semarang-Base Bun (plane) or by ship-Base Bun Semarang. With land vehicles from Base Mouldings Bun to about 20 minutes (8 miles). Further from Kumai to the Cape of Good Hope use klotok for 1.5-2 hours, or Mouldings - Galangal Natai for 4 to 5 hours. Using a fast boat from Kumai - Cape of Good Hope for 0.5 to 1 hour, from Kumai - Camp Leakey for 1.5 to 2 hours, and from Kumai to Natai Galangal for 1.5 to 2 hours.
